Katy's Italian Meatsauce
INGREDIENTS:
1 pound lean ground beef
6 Whole Italian sausages
1 26-ounce jar tomato sauce,
seasoned with garlic, basil,
(use what you prefer)
1 14-1/2 ounce can diced
tomatoes (seasoned)
Sun-dried tomatoes packed,
in oil (4-5 pieces), chopped
4 to 5 garlic cloves, chopped
1 tablespoon dried Italian,
seasonings
2 bay leaves
1/4 cup red wine (optional)
Salt and pepper to taste
DIRECTIONS:
Heat 2 tablespoons olive oil in large
skillet. Sauté garlic until fragrant.
Add ground beef and whole Italian
sausages; cook until browned (drain
fat if necessary). Add remaining
ingredients, bring to a boil. Cover
and simmer for 1 hour, stirring
frequently. Leave lid slightly ajar
the last 15 minutes of cooking. This
will allow the steam to escape and help
to thicken the sauce if necessary.
*Serve over Linguine or your favorite
pasta with plenty of fresh grated
Parmesan cheese.
*Discarding the water that collects
in lid of pan several times during the
cooking process will also help thicken
the sauce.
